Notes
Mason B. Taylor was a taper from Chicago that recorded concerts by many bands in the Chicagoland area and on Dead tours. He used a Nakamichi 550 with Nakamichi 300 mics with shotgun capsules for most of his earlier recordings. In later years he used Sony D-5 and Sony D-3 cassette recorders with Nakamichi 300 mics.
Mason captured spectacular musical moments and loved to share them with his closest friends. In honor of Mason and all the love he put into his recordings we are now able to share these moments with those who can appreciate them most.
As the shows get uploaded we would love for you to share your stories about the epic times the music evokes so we can all dial back into that moment when the magic was happening.
Thanks to Mason’s family and his Chicago and Cleveland friends for opening up Mason’s Jar…"

Subject: Classic Early '80s Show. Must Have For Your Collection!
From listening closely, I think this is another balcony rail recording. The mics are off the crowd to a considerable degree which makes it very listenable. I also think the new milk crate mystery tape is on par with Mason's, maybe being slightly brighter, though problem-plagued with dropouts and cuts. Highly recommended for one hell-of-a show. This should be in every head's collection along with Froggy's tape and the Lindenbaum contribution! Trust me, you can't get enough of this show!
Subject: Hot show.

A freaking phenomenal show, 2nd set a personal favorite for years. I had a cassette recording ... of the bootleg vinyl, 2nd set only - without digging out that tape I'm pretty sure Mason's tapes were the source for that boot. I love the sound and energy of this recording - crazy good.
I love how Bobby goes all Chess Records (this being Chicago and all) and breaks out a great Rooster (first since '66?) Jerry takes it seamlessly into one of the best China - Rider's post '74 and from there it's all fantastic.
Unfortunately tail end of the 2nd set is missing from this upload. Even so - still 5 stars, this show brings tears to my eyes. Hopefully the rest of Mason's master recording surfaces.
